What happens when you meet with the Careers Advisor?

Spend time discussing:

  • Subject options

  • Tertiary and employment options

  • Tasks to complete in order to help you solve your career uncertainties eg: Careerquest computer programme

  • Research options for career ideas eg: www.kiwicareers.govt.nz

Available to you and your parents/caregivers

  • Individual career counselling for career uncertainty and/or decision-making 

  • Some testing, to help you find suitable career options 

  • Information about careers and training providers 

  • Career library of books, DVD’s and videos 

  • On-line information and career tools 

  • Work experience placements 

  • Courses to help you make decisions such as Gateway, Individualised Career Programme, STAR courses

  • Assistance with CV preparation 

  • Interview preparation 

  • Assistance with job applications, scholarship applications 

  • Individual career programme classes in Years 12 and 13

Appointments

Please see Mr Walker in the Careers Office (beside the Library) to make a time.
Make sure that you are not missing any tests, trips or important lessons when you make a time.  Parents are welcome but sometimes it is a good idea for you to sort out your ideas first and then discuss it in detail with your parents.
